Hailing from the seemingly never ending talent pool of Western Australia, The Growl has recently risen to prominence and are currently supporting Tame Impala on their national tour. Originally a recording project of frontman Cameron Avery (who also plays drums for POND) and bassist Clinton Oliver, the band has developed into a six-piece (dual drums). The group released their debut EP (available on Bandcamp) last year, and are now readying to unleash their first album on the world.
Self-recorded and produced, everything about the album’s first single “Cleaver Leaver” is immense. From the rich vocals of Avery, to the slamming percussion, to the vast layers of shredding guitar, this is not a band which skimps on the trimmings. It covers a lot of ground in a short 2:46, and gives you a good impression of how powerful their live show must be.
This is a band which will do great things next year, with their album launch just the start. Keep your ears open. Growl.
