The Kickdrums, a Cleveland-based digital age duo, were hip-hop producers for a minute before becoming a band. Follow The Leaders is their latest production project, which mixes their esteemed hip-hop influence along with various other genres to create a lattice of sounds wrapped up into one pleasure-filled package. The 14-track mixtape features guest emcees from the likes of Casey Veggies, Machine Gun Kelly, Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, Freddie Gibbs, Rockie Fresh, DZ Deathrays, and Hot As Sun.
This remix of L.A. duo Hot As Sun features the dope Freddie Gibbs, who was also on their album The Ghost Mixtape. Their reworking of “Come Come” is built on a sample from The Delphonics “Ready or Not Here I Come” and is developed with blissed-out atmospherics, menacing horns, bouncy strings and real hip-hop swagger, without compromising any elements of the original. The seamless fusion of indie rock and dark, hard hip-hop is a proven formula of some next level shit that many of you will enjoy.
