"Swinging Party (Kindness Cover)"

Sounds like: Joy Division, David Byrne, The Replacements

What's so good?

Originally sung by The Replacements and covered by UK’s Kindness, “Swinging Party” has taken on a fresh face with completely reinvented jittery guitar riffs, warm textures and moody electronics. This modernly vintage dance groove begins proceedings with a steady beat-filled introduction and a walking bass line that is slotted firmly into place with lyrical precision to achieve the ever-so-popular 80’s sound that so many of today’s’ bands are referencing. Nevertheless, the difference here is that it’s so catchy that the track is bound for a revival in clubs and dance floors across the globe.

Despite the originals lounge vibe, the lyrics sung here carry a trademark drone that is somewhat familiar — think Joy Division or David Byrne, but in key. Some hilariously awesome lyrics that I particularly enjoyed are; “Bring your own lampshade, somewhere there’s a party, here it’s never ending, can’t remember where it started, pass around the lampshade, there’ll be plenty enough room in jail”. And to that, all I can say is… where da party at?

What do you think?
