It’s been an eventful 2012 for Sydney pop duo Toucan (Jess Pollard and Shea Duncan). On the back of their 2011 EP release, Brave New World, they spent this year touring with the likes of The Kooks, the Mystery Jets and Last Dinosaurs (as well as headlining shows of their own!). At the same time, they were piecing together a second EP, Swim, which is due for release in January 2013.
We’ve already been treated to the EP’s first single, the lively “Mr Television”, but they’ve taken a different angle with their new release “Warrior.” Expansive and poignant, the arrangement on this track is phenomenal (exactly what you’d expect from two professionally trained musicians). Pollard’s exceptional vocal tones are once again a standout, soaring above an orchestral collection of brass, percussion, strings and keys.
If 2012 was a big year for them, 2013 is looking to be just as hectic. Aside from the new EP, they’ll also be performing during the Big Day Out National Tour (Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Killers, Foals) in January.
