Meet Underwater Seacreatures, a duo from Richmond, Virginia with a refreshing grasp on experimental glo-fi or “fro-fi,” if you will. Their debut self-titled EP was just released, and I have a feeling that this group is going to gain speed sooner than later.
I was hooked from the first song I heard. I immediately felt engulfed in a wave of smooth, silky post-R&B synth sex. These guys have a fantastic perspective for tastefully melding and crossing genres new and old. It seems as though the focus is more on the instrumentals, and the vocals help compliment that. The harmonies are great, the lyrics are simple, and the instrumentals take the stage. There’s a lot of looping, sampling and atmospheric dance grooves to be had, to say the least.
Underwater Seacreatures were nice enough to give away their self-titled EP for just $1 which you can find on Bandcamp. So far, this duo is unsigned and there’s no tour in sight, but that could very well change so keep your eyes peeled. In the meantime, go on and get acquainted with this shimmery disco noir infectiousness.
