"You Still Believe In Trying To Break Your Heart (Mash-Up)"

What's so good?

Here on Indie Shuffle we feature a lot of mashups. Typically they’re of the dub-step or hip-hop variety — less so of that featured today. In fact, I don’t think any of them feature Wilco or The Beach Boys.

These tracks first appeared on The Smiley Smile Dot Message Board over five years ago. Their creator, b.dfzo had this to say about their project:

It is tentatively titled “You Still Believe In Trying To Break Your Heart”.  It is not done yet, obviously.  Just an example of what anybody can do with music.  Take something old, something new, everything borrowed, and come up with something cool.

Although The Beach BoysPet Sounds was released in 1966 and Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot in 2001, they both stand as timeless works. The respective magna operafor the (sometimes) tortured genius of Jeff Tweedy & Brian Wilson, somehow these tightly woven masterpieces interlock beautifully.

Tied together are “You Still Believe In Me” with “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart,” “That’s Not Me” with “War on War,” and “Untitled 2″ — a pairing of a YHF out-take that would become “Poor Places” and “I’m Waiting For The Day.”

b.dfzo, if you’re still out there we’d love to hear the rest!
