Despite all the hype surrounding electronic music coming out of Australia, there are still plenty of acts not getting the attention they deserve. One of those is Melbourne duo Willow Beats - a collaboration consisting of Narayana Johnson and Kalyani Ellis (who are actually uncle-niece!). Having already released a widely praised self-titled EP last year, the talented twosome are back with a fresh new single, "Alchemy".
Producer Johnson lays a platform of warm, glitchy beats, while sampling and layering Ellis' vibrant vocals. While most people will be quick to compare this to the work of Flume (and while there are similarities), there are complexities in Willow Beats' music which differentiate them from a lot of other local acts. This track will no doubt increase the quickly growing buzz around these talented musicians.
Available as a free download from their Soundcloud, "Alchemy" is just another indication of the huge level of talent in Australian electronic music, with Melbourne quickly developing into the most influential hub.
