Since theirbreakthrough last fall with debutsingle "Unbound" followed by"Harlem," we've been obsessed with CATHEDRALS, the San Francisco-based duo best known for bending genres and blending dreamy, emotivesoundscapes with a touch of sweet melancholy.Their third single, "Want My Love," just dropped this morning, and it is soul-baring andstunningly beautiful.
"Want My Love" reveals amorepassionate side to the band's sound, and is the most brilliant showcase yet of singerBrodie Jenkins'vocal power. The song opens with her soulful voice, heavy withemotion, buildingas warm synths and lush melodies unfold into something like heartache, raw and real. Thena deeplywistfulguitar solo byJohnny Hwin brings the track to a climax, Jenkins belting a refrain in back.
Drawing influences fromR&B to jazz to shoegaze to beats, CATHEDRALS at once transgresses genre and is "pop of biblical proportions," so saysNeon Gold Records. The band has more than proven itselfexceptional afterthree solid singles, and I'm left hopeful and eager for analbum release in the near future.
