Why do we like this?

You may be familiar with German label Jakarta Records through releases from the likes of Kaytranada, IAMNOBODI, and Ta-ku. They've recently recently started a sub-label, Habibi Funk, which specializes in reissuing "funky/soulful and/or psych influenced music from the Arab world of the 70s and 80s."

Their first release, which came out in July, comes from Tunisian band Dalton, a five-piece who came together in the late 60s when most of the members studied together at the University of Tunis. "Alech," recorded in 1972, is their only release. As Habibi Funk explains, it brings together "an infectious 3/4 rhythm, a great horn arrangement and brilliantly layered vocals to get every party started."

Until reissued, this one was really a lost treasure (Habibi Funk themselves found it in the library of a French collector). However, the good news is you can now order a copy from Habibi Funk's Bandcamp.
