I’m going to be honest. I, like everyone else, was a big fan of Deadmau5 when he first took the stage in the mid-2010s. But then the novelty kind of wore off, and I fell out of the loop a bit. So when I saw he had a new single out and it popped up on my review list, I was naturally curious.
The instrumentation of “Hyperlandia” has a distinct retro ‘80’s vibe, and the welcome addition of Foster the People brings a softer, more emotional vocal edge to a producer whose sound was typically aimed at bringing the party back when he first came onto the scene.
I personally really enjoy this new, progressive, more mature, laidback version of the dude with the giant trippy mouse head, and the incorporation of light, emotive vocals and thought-provoking lyricism don’t hurt at all.
If you’re looking for something new and different, that isn’t typically Deadmau5, and isn’t typically Foster the People, but offers you the best of both, “Hyperlandia” is your track.
