Why do we like this?

This is an interesting little track that's way out of my musical comfort zone.

For a time, Angel Deradoorian played bass and sung in Dirty Projectors. She's since gone on to forge a solo career, not to mention a number of collaborations, including a feature on "Siren Song", from Flying Lotus' stunning You're Dead!

"Komodo" begins with finesse in the form of a delicate Eastern rhythm. The motif shifts between a number of instrumental focuses, later sandwiched beneath vintage vocal melodies and a simple drumbeat.

You don't hear such expansive and structurally thoughtful music that often outside of obscure fringes, and I'm so glad to have found it. More composition than pop song, it feels theatrical -- almost as though it should be the soundtrack to a stark, silent film.

Deradoorian's ten-track solo debut The Expanding Flower Planet will be released on August 21.
