Ahhh, what a refreshing way to end the weekend. "En Memoria" by Elephant & Castle featuring tUnE-yArDs is such a wonderful way to wind down and ease into the work week.
This refreshing track encapsulates an innocence and timelessness that helps you unwind and breathe easy. It starts off rather abstractly with samplings and vocal mixing that catapults you into another atmosphere of psychedelia. It soon transforms into Merrill Garbus' breezy, soft vocals singing a lullaby-esque melody, almost whispering and summoning you into her lair of otherworldly delight.
After listening to this track, I'd gladly follow her into that realm. Perhaps this particular lyric can summarize the entire vibe of the song: "There was once a time/but time may melt away/All into the sun if just another day/and then the days you spent are counted in your head/Close your fingers tight/they'll slip away like sand."
"En Memoria" is the first track to be released from Elephant & Castle's upcoming album, Transitions, set to drop on March 13. I truly hope they release at least one more track before then, especially if it's going to be as cathartic as this one.
