I'd usually consider a few years a long gap between releases, but Newcastle (Australia) band Firekites have taken significantly longer on their sophomore record. Their debut album The Bowery won them legions of admirers after its release back in 2008, and to say that anticipation is pretty high for a follow-up would be a bit of an understatement!
Fans (new and old) won't have to wait too much longer, with a second album due out in a matter of months. Before that release, we've been treated to their new single "The Counting," an absolutely gorgeous pop track that will work its way under your skin in no time. Dreamy while still possessing a slight edge, it's got that introspective undertone only the best acts can create -- a real testament to the band's quality.
This is really looking like one of those "well worth the wait" records. Closing Forever Sky will be released on August 15 via Spunk Records. Welcome back, guys!
