Why do we like this?

Hop Along has hit a number of nails right on the head with “How Simple.” This track is great, with multiple layers of brilliance. Frances Quinlan’s vocals are strong, yet quaint, loud and forceful while still gentle and soothing; a tough trick to pull off.

The various guitar rhythms piled carefully atop of, and next to one another, work splendidly. The backing vocals and overdubbing are also perfectly aligned with the song’s tone. Add a little synth work and they have a recipe that nobody can duplicate; something original; something authentic.
