Why do we like this?
Hot Club De Paris is an excellent example of a particular brand of energized, frenetic British rock that manages to sound like the middle-finger-flipping child of punk rock while maintaining an excellent vocabulary.
Their new album, Free the Pterodactyl 3, represents this sound well, and creatively so. There are sonic references to bands like the Libertines and Los Campesinos!, but Hot Club manages to inject a dose of pop accessibility, making their album both unique and an incredibly fun listen.
Things get more interesting the more you listen to the album. I hear hints of the Clash's internationally-driven rhythms; these Liverpool natives are having a blast on the album while maintaining a rather high level of musicality. The punk sound is there (particularly in their Liverpool accents), but they slow down the beats and let their guitars trill with delicate picking. And through this, the energy on the album stays high.
All the tracks are a blast, but I'm particularly loving the opener, "I'm Not In Love & Neither Are You." Enjoy!
