Why do we like this?

D.C.-bred, L.A.-based singer Kelela has been heating up since last years' brazenly titled Cut 4 Me mixtape, but it is her collaboration with Gifted and Blessed, "The High," that made my ears perk up.

The soulstress has a strong and soft voice that is neither too forceful nor limp. GB's thick, deep electronic arrangements serve as a perfect sound bed for Kelela to muse on the allure of intoxicating attractions.

Don't sleep on Kelela's powerful voice and GB's ethereal electronic compositions.
