Why do we like this?
Earlier this week, a Grand Jury decided not to charge white Cleveland officer Timothy Loehman in the death of black 12 year-old Tamir Rice.
When I first read the news, I instantly changed tabs. I danced around the news before I could muster the courage to read the details. I cried alone.
I've listened to Kimya Dawson's "At The Seams" on loop for the more than an hour. The rough, piano-and-voice demo builds a razor thin line between fury and despair. It's comforting but steadfast: we live in the belly of the beast and for those of us black and brown, there is no hiding place.
