Melbourne-based artist Lanks (Will Cuming) has probably been my most written-about act of the year; I've covered four of his previous singles (and a remix, too!). After releasing his debut EP, Thousand Piece Puzzle, a couple of months back, he's back with a fifth track for me to share with you all.
"Beach Houses" might just be my favorite Lanks track yet, and it's definitely his smoothest work to date. Laid back electronics set the tone, with altered vocals and flourishes of flute introduced to keep things interesting. This sort of track could easily come out uninspiring and flat, but Cuming has balanced this perfectly between cool and quirky.
Another notch in the belt for this talented artist. Expect to hear much more from him in 2015 with a second EP scheduled early on.
