Usually, YouTube is pretty bad at recommending music. It’s always something as politically-charged and annoying as new Taylor Swift (absolutely love her 1989, though) or something as bland as 95% of techno music (sorry not sorry).
Yet every once in a while, YouTube manages to irritate me with something that turns out to be my go-to jam for the upcoming week. This exact thing happened with Louisiana's own Lucky Daye, an R&B singer-songwriter that I had (to my great disappointment) no previous knowledge of.
"Real Games" is a third single from Daye's debut album Painted, released a couple of months ago by Keep Cool and RCA Records (also working with artists such as SZA, Childish Gambino, Khalid, Mark Ronson and many many more). It's an extremely soulful track, filled with vivid colours and a very lovely bounce (the kind of bounce D'Angelo would definitely hop on!).
The part that got me the most in "Real Games" was a pretty sudden beat switch at 03:13 and the way Daye's delivery there sounds like it's Kendrick on the track (the resemblance is so uncanny I had to google if he's not actually featured).
With all that being said, I'm pretty excited about Lucky Daye and, even though the album is freshly out the oven, I already can't wait to hear what he has in store!
