Why do we like this?
Well, isn’t this a nice surprise?
Animal Collective’s Deakin has remixed M83’s “Go!” off the band’s recent album, Junk. Far from what the album name suggests, Anthony Gonzalez’s long-awaited release is chock-full of celestial treasures. And while “Go!” is admittedly not one of my favorite tracks from the album, this remix is quite pleasing.
Deakin takes vocalist Mai Lan on a quiet, puttering journey through a new space. The sax from the original is stripped away, as well as the bombastic power found in the chorus, allowing for more outerworld matter to slip between the lyrics. I particularly love the cymbals and fuzzy feels just after the three minute mark. This mix is clearly favors Deakin’s soft touch, which you might just love.
