Why do we like this?
It's no secret that I've been anticipating the release of Made in Japan's sophomore album all year. Since dropping their celebrated debut LP, Sights and Sounds, more than two years ago, the band has been working toward the follow-up; singles "Follow the Fool" and "History" were the first taste. Recorded and released independently (the guys have built their own home studio), the four-piece are now ready to unveil Tame All Those Thoughts, with drummer/vocalist James Cooney stating, "This album is the most honest and unique material we've ever produced."

The album is carefully structured to be enjoyed from start to finish, and with releases like that the opening track is vital. "Community" fits the bill perfectly. On the heavier side from what we've heard previously from the guys, the powerful guitar and thudding percussion immediately draw you in before the track opens up in typical Made in Japan style.

This is a band that possess a unique talent in their creation of complex soundscapes -- with large chunks of songs vocal-free (although James Cooney's imploring tones are featured heavily on this one). While I'm still a huge fan of the album's singles, other standouts include the lush "I'll Try" and the guitar-driven "Inbetween Fixes" (a great example of the aforementioned instrumentally focused tracks).

This is a truly independent band, and as music lovers they are a band that you all should support. The album is available on Made in Japan's Bandcamp; please give it a listen.
