Why do we like this?

We interrupt this flurry of SXSW recaps to share a new song from Australia’s Miami Horror. We have loved this funky, synth-pop band for years, and their brand new EP Shapes deserves your time.

My fondness for Miami Horror stems from growing up outside Miami, Florida. It was endearing to listen to a band on the other side of the globe with the same name.

I have seen Miami Horror play just once -- and you bet your butt it was in Miami. It was a sticky, humid night and the band was cramped on this tiny, embarrassing excuse for a stage in the back of a club. I remember thinking, "These guys have played massive festivals around the world and we can’t even give them a proper stage!" They were too polite to say anything and played all of our favorite songs, which at the time were “Moon Theory” and “Holidays.” I danced until curfew called.

If you’re building out your bikini playlist, add all the latest songs from Shapes. It’s refreshing to hear new material from these Aussies.
