This past Thursday night at The Stache in downtown Fort Lauderdale, My Deer performed one hell of a show -- they played a flawless set for 45 minutes. Their sound is pure indie rock, with synths mixed in to create a winning combination that had the crowd rocking.
So, what's the story behind this band? Well, they're a five-piece based out of Miami. My Deer began with Jo Viscaino (vocals/songwriter) and Yannick Calleiro (guitar), who have been playing together since 2012. They started out playing indie folk music but decided to change their style, so they recruited three talented musicians to create an indie/electronic hybrid rock sound late in 2013. Alana Dym (drums), Chris Valente (bass), and Amanda Velasquez (keyboards) completed the band.
My Deer had great on-stage presence; Jo Viscaino's stunning vocals set the stage for band to follow. They played a lot of originals, yet threw in a few covers, including one of Arcade Fire's "Sprawl II."
My Deer is currently recording their debut EP. In the meantime, enjoy "I Wish."
