Why do we like this?

Disclaimer: I'm basically stealing this from Passion Of The Weiss contributor Harold Stallworth.

Nas' Life Is Good album wasn't the return to Queensbridge that some of us hopelessly held out for, but there were some bones tossed to the past.

"Reach Out" featuring Mary J. Blige had Nas rhyming over what was essentially DJ Hot Day's remix to a New Edition track. The song took me back to It Was Written; needless to say it was a highlight. Well, DJ Hot Day himself took a crack at remixing the cover of his remix. Stallworth explains:

"Last year, closer to Nas’s 20th anniversary Illmatic cold boot than Def Jam’s push for Life Is Good, Hot Day released his remix for “Reach Out” by way of his personal SoundCloud account. This latest iteration, where Hot Day replaces Mary J. Blige with the original New Edition vocals, works as a remix of a remix of a remix of an 18-year-old love song—a meta-loop of Tropic Thunder proportions. It makes for a wonky yet worthy addition to Nas’s vast unreleased catalog."
