We've come to know and love Björk not only for her incredible talent as a musician but also for her quirk and wit when it comes to interviews and press. Having already covered her use of the made-up word 'warmthness', along with poor handwriting resulting in people calling her Gork when she announced her new album, now, adding to the craziness that is 2017, Björk has interviewed herself.

Björk Interviews Herself

In light of her forthcoming album Utopia, Björk interviewed herself for W Magazine. She begins by pondering what kind of questions she plans to ask herself. She details certain routes she could take when deciding what to ask – cliche or "normcore magaziney questions." She eventually decides on the latter and then blunders right into "what is your relationship with flutes?" In her answer, she attributes her singing-chops to her strong lungs developed from years of playing flute. The follow up question evoked a response about her relationship with the co-producer of her previous album, Vulnicura.

Alejandro Ghersi

Alejandro Ghersi, better known as Arca, is a Venezuelan producer who has not only released three solo studio album but has also produced for Kanye West, FKA Twigs and, of course, Björk. He worked closely with her on Vulnicura and she delved quite deeply into this in the self interview.

Björk expresses her guilt about dragging him through the darkness that was the album, as it was inspired by her the dark times she went through during a breakup. She feels that both herself and Alejandro have "earned a lightness" and can therefore work on Utopia. As an artist, she enjoys working with him and feels free from concern about being typecast as just the female vocalist on a male-produced album.

Utopia Release Date

While Utopia isn't, as Björk explains, about marching forth and inheriting a utopian ideal, it's about exploring what fantasies may be as well as what realities are, and then seeing how the two can work together. Fans have been fantasizing about the release of Utopia, and the reality is that may be soon, as Björk has already sent the last files for mastering and in her words "the album is ready!" As it stands, the release date is set for November 1st, 2017.
