Indie Shuffle has been hosting regular live events in New York City now for some time now; the UK has something rather special too. #blogtober takes place every October in London and showcases 31 back-to-back nights of gigs curated by some of the worlds best bloggers. Taking place at The Finsbury in North London, 2017 saw Indie Shuffle bring the likes of Wyldest, Kudu Blue and Nia Wyn to the stage.

Nia Wyn

Nia Wyn

Nia Wyn is a singer-songwriter whose youth is a mere deception from the life she has led and the stories she was to tell. Originally from North Wales, her childhood is rich in trials and tribulations that have seen her grow into the charismatic and (at times) quirky persona we met at #blogtober. With a beautiful tone, and vocal style that is loosely connected to the late Amy Winehouse, alongside an on-stage swagger not too dissimilar to Jake Bugg, it was a very bright opening performance.

Kudu Blue

Kudu Blue

Kudu Blue really did start tongues wagging at Indie Shuffle's 2017 #blogtober event. As a band they've been grafting for months now, recording new songs and nurturing their life performance. All of which was evident at the showcase event. With a mixture of fans and prospects, I think by the third or fourth song the band successfully got everyone to at least have a light shuffle in response to their music. Front-woman, Clementine, has a rather wonderful voice, complimented by the intricate musicianship from the full band. The cover of Blu Cantrell's "Breathe" was definitely a deal-breaker, with many stunning to stillness to watch a truly epic cover.

Wyldest

Wyldest

Wyldest were our headliners for the night, bringing out with them a rather welcomed set of multi-colored fairy lights. "It's a bit early for Christmas isn't it?" I heard one guy say. I saw him later on getting very into the groove of one of their songs, so I'm glad the association with Santa didn't affect his experience too much.

Wyldest are on the cusp of having a great year. Fans have received their music well, they've performed shows to big audiences and are gathering support from tastemakers far and wide. Their most recent releases have seen a self-produced finish that, to my ears, has notched everything up a level for this band. Zoe's vocals are crisp yet mellifluous in the mix, with each track taking you on a slightly different journey. The set was a mixture of these older and fresher tracks from the bands brimming discography. It was a real treat to watch their set ahead of the 'big one'; their first headline performance at The Waiting Room, London, later this year.
