In an extended interview with DJ Semtex on BBC Radio 1Xtra this week, Chance the Rapper revealed that he is working on his debut studio album.

Chance’s latest release - his full-length mixtape Coloring Book - blurred the distinction between mixtape and album, and the Chicago-based emcee said that his new project will be something different, and “something that you can consider an album.”

“I'll probably put out an album, that's what I've been thinking about, just between us,” Chance said.

“I don't know exactly the format every time when I'm making something, but a lot of times I have an idea, and I think what I'm working on now is an album,” he explained.

“It might not be physical, it might not be a disc, but an album that comes with its own live show – that’s important.”

Chance also spoke about his experience of visiting the White House, his family's connection with President Obama, and shared his thoughts on the recent US election.

“I’m scared of Donald Trump. I don’t hate him, I’m not mad at him, I’m just scared. I think that’s exactly what the cast of Hamilton was trying to exhibit when the Vice President-elect came to their show, and they asked him to give them a chance, I think it’s out of fear,” Chance said.

“If you are a person who has become somewhat consciously awakened by this whole thing transpiring, you can be integral to the way America works by voting in two years,” he said. “And spending the next two years finding out policies that affect you, and affect everyone, and what’s right and what’s wrong.”
