Dan Snaith, the mastermind behind Caribou, is releasing an album under his other moniker Daphni. The new album Joli Mai follows 2012's Jiaolong and his renowned 2017 mix, Fabriclive.93. The latter included new material from Daphni that will be included as extended and fleshed-out versions on the forth coming album.

The Evolution of Dan Snaith

Snaith's music career isn't as straight forward as some other artists – it's intercepted by academia. In 2005 he received a doctorate in mathematics at Imperial College London, which is home to Sir Alexander Fleming and other notable alumni. Prior to this, he was producing music under the stage name Manitoba, releasing two albums before being threatened with a lawsuit, because of his name, by punk rock singer Richard "Handsome Dick" Manitoba. To which Snaith understandably said it was like John Smith suing The Smiths. Nevertheless he didn't fight for it and rather re-released his albums under the new moniker Caribou. In 2012 Daphni emerged and now, in 2017, the next phase of the experimental electronic artist is unfolding.

Daphni's New Album Joli Mai

Joli Mai is the latest album to come from Daphni, not the better know Caribou. Some of the tracks were made available for preview on Bandcamp prior to its release, but the full album will only be available October 6th. It's a follow on from the Fabriclive mix that includes a fairly similar track list – the only new track being "Vulture" which could be similar to Fabriclive.93's "Strange Bird."
