I vividly remember the first time I heard Metallica.  It was late 1991, in my Dad's car and "Enter Sandman" had just begun to play.  During the hollow, acoustic guitar intro my Dad leaned over and cranked the volume just in time for Metallica's signature distortion to straighten the hair on the back of my neck.  It was in that moment, I knew I would forever be a Metallica fan.

When you're a band that remains together through the decades, win multiple Grammy's and can still put on an unforgettable show, it's pretty clear that you are wired in a very special way. So it seems fitting that 'Hardwired... to Self-Destruct" is the name of Metallica's recently released,10th studio album.

Well, last Saturday the band came through their old stomping grounds to perform at the iconic Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. It was labeled as "An Evening With Metallica," and considering there were no openers, it was exactly that. The crowd behaved like a bunch of (old)kids in a candy store full of excitement.  It was truly setup for an epic night.  I mean, it's Metallica, at the Fox!

The band shredded though some of their hits likes "Blackened," "Sad But True," "Harvester Of Sorrow" and "Enter Sandman," while playing a few tracks from the new album as well.  The only real disappoint of the night was the barren backdrop and lack of graphics, which is only the case because I got spoiled the last time I saw them at AT&T park after the Super Bowl and their stage production was beyond legit!

At the end of the day, there's definitely something to be said for a band who can still perform at the highest level for years, even decades on end.  Metallica is one of those once in a lifetime bands who have influenced tons of artists and listeners across numerous generations, and will probably do so for generations to come.
