Chances are that you are part of the Spotify subscriber population of 30 million. Now the music streaming service should be slightly above 100 million total users since it’s launch in 2008 based on data released from Digital Music News. Daniel Ek, Spotify founder and CEO, took to Twitter on Monday to announce the company’s monumental achievement.

Last June the streaming service announced they broke 20 million subscribers. That means they gained a little over a million subscribers each month in the past nine months compared to the almost 250,000 subscribers they gained each month from their launch to their 20 million milestone.

When new streaming services like Apple Music and Tidal launched, Spotify fans and critics predicted a loss of subscribers for the streaming empire. Even with exclusive content on major artists being held by competitors Tidal and Apple Music, Spotify shows zero sign of slowing down.

For instance, Spotify’s significant population growth surpasses the initial momentum Apple Music, who stated last month they had reached 11 million paid users. And even with Tidal's promotion as being the sole service streaming Kanye West's TLOP, their attempt to gain a flood of new subscribers has been disappointing, which resulted with internal struggles.

Spotify, along with any other streaming service, will continue to face obstacles between artist royalties, exclusive content, and new service launches, but Spotify has proven worthy to the challenge. Long live Spotify.
