Why do we like this?
In many parts of the world, today is Mother's day. For some reason England had their celebration on April 3rd, which confuses the heck out of me given that they colonized 90% of the countries celebrating today. Never mind that, though. Today's about your Mother, and so it only makes sense that our Song of the Day follow suit in some way, shape or form.

Paul Simon's "Mother and Child Reunion" was featured on his self-titled 1972 album. At the time, it was one of the first songs by a white musician to feature prominent elements of reggae (Interesting trivia: Cissy Houston, mother of Whitney Houston, sang backup vocals on the song). While the subject may be about the death of a family dog, it's indisputable that title contains the word "Mother," and is therefore appropriate.

Rather than get in trouble with the major labels, we've opted to feature The Morning Benders' slowed-down cover. Personally, I think I might like their distinctive acoustic take on the song a little bit better than the original.
