Sounds Australian - November 2016

Welcome to the November edition of Sounds Australian - your monthly playlist featuring some great new releases from Australian artists.

I’m kicking off this month’s playlist with one of my favourite releases from this year – the gorgeous “Vines” from Brisbane-based producer Golden Vessel. Featuring the silky vocals of Melbourne songstress Woodes, this track is a slice of perfectly crafted woozy electronica.

“Drown It Out” is the electrifying new indie-pop release from Tasmanian-based artist Maddy Jane. Opening with a few jangly guitars, “Drown It Out” quickly kicks it up a notch with some crisp beats and a punchy beach-rock vibe. Maddy Jane’s captivating vocals are energised and irresistible, and I can guarantee you’ll have this track on repeat. You can catch Maddy Jane and the Janes opening this year’s Falls Festival in Marion Bay, Tasmania, with tickets available here.

Young Franco’s “Miss You” will take you to a funky world of slinky beats and bouncing disco synths. If you’re a fan of Mura Masa and Kaytranada, you’re bound to love this one.

My final highlight for this month comes from Luunes, a new duo on the Australian scene comprising Anna Milat and Sam Litchfield (who also produces laid-back electronica under the name Litche). “Glass” soars with Anna’s airy vocals, as the layers of simmering electronic beats twist the track into a wave of icy electronica. The duo describes “Glass” as an “unusual and intriguing sound, essentially portraying the effects of a person completely altering and obscuring another’s perception”. I couldn’t have put it better myself.
