This week was lost yet another artist. It has definitely been a tough few months as it seems like legend after legend has passed away. This week was different though, as we lost an artist just barely beginning his career in Lil Peep.
You might not be familiar with Lil Peep, but the twenty-one year old was famous for his brand of Emo Trap, rapping/singing about drugs and break-ups, and for a not so subtle "Crybaby" tattoo on his face.
As I spent the day listening to his catalogue, it takes me back to being in college and driving around with my friends singing back Dashboard Confessional lyrics at the top of my lungs. Every once in a while an artist comes around completely unfiltered, sharing their heart and their lives through their music making it completely relatable. I think this is the case with Lil Peep as so many individuals could relate to the heartbreak and sadness he carried in his voice.
Sadly though, Lil Peep's story didn't have a happy ending. I just hope that some good can be found in the tragedy of his life being cut short. With Lil Peep, I can't help but think of all of the kids that have come through my class as a teacher. I can't imagine how tough it is to grow up in today's society, but I wonder if things like this could be averted by one person making a difference in someone's life. Hopefully Lil Peep can be that for anyone struggling with drugs, sadness, or anything else they have going on.
