SXSW 2016: Spotify House - Friday

Tags: Featured, indie rock, lo-fi, indie pop

In the past few SXSW festivals, the Spotify House installation has been one of the best attractions for music fans of a wide range of genres. This year has been no different. I, personally, am most excited for the day show on Friday, 3/18. Some of the hottest bands in the blogosphere will be playing back to back and it is guaranteed to be a great time.

Starting off the day bright and early at noon is Brooklyn based synth pop heroes, Porches. Their new album, Pool, has been one of my favorite releases of 2016 and their live shows are killer.

Hinds is next on the bill, and if you've been following my SXSW posts so far, then you are no stranger to Hinds. Prepare yourself for jangling garage rock and party-all-night attitude from this Madrid all-girl quartet. You won't be disappointed.

Following Hinds, Day Wave takes the stage with sun-drenched surf pop gems. This will be my first time catching them live and I'm stoked. Public Access T.V., one of my favorite discoveries from last year's SXSW plays next. Public Access T.V. is poised to be the next great band to emerge from the NYC post-punk scene, and their live show demonstrates why.

Lo-fi rock outfit Car Seat Headrest plays next. This is going to be a band to watch in the next few months; I predict that they are going to blow up.

Next, Dilly Dally takes the stage, and I am real excited to see this band live. This Toronto four-piece creates some of the best roll-your-windows-down garage rock that I've heard in a while. Check out "Desire" to see what I mean.

Up next are Chicago party-rockers, Twin Peaks. If you haven't seen these guys live before, take this opportunity now. Seriously. White Reaper, a pop punk fourtet out of Louisville play next, with frenetic, high-octane energy that will get the crowd moving.

Closing down the day are The Kills, a garage rock duo that is one part American, one part British.

This is a big line-up. I threw around terms like "party-rockers" and "frenetic, high-octane energy" pretty frequently up there, because this is going to be a bonkers showcase. There is going to crowd-surfing and there is going to be moshing. I can't wait. But remember, this is Texas, so make sure to stay hydrated while you're rocking out. I'll see y'all there.
