Why do we like this?

Remi has shared a powerful new song and video this week, "Substance Therapy," created along with long-time collaborator and producer Sensible J.

The track is lyrically dense, weighted by the very real, very intense topic of alcohol and drug abuse as a means to escape, a means of forgetting - when in reality, it only makes it worse, in terms of mental health, in terms of losing money, in terms of losing a grip of reality.

The reason this track is astounding is twofold. Firstly, for a hip-hop track to so openly address mental illness and substance abuse is not remarkably intimate and undoubtedly relatable for many, but incredibly important in the ever-expanding acceptance and de-stigmatising of the subject in hip-hop. Secondly, on a musical level, it's catchy, dark and seriously smooth. Sensible J's production is ominous and driving, while Remi's flow is understated and naturally fluid, time and time again proving himself to be one of the best Australian rappers at a time when Australian hip-hop only continues to flourish and grow at an unprecedented rate.

Remi will be releasing his new album Divas And Demons this September via House Of Beige.
