Why do we like this?

I’ll start off by saying that there’s an absolute feeling of accomplishment when you find a song on SoundCloud that hasn’t been blogged about fifty thousand times, and it’s an absolute gem of a song. A song that makes you think to yourself, “Hold up. How is this not rated the #1 song on every single music outlet out there?”

I scrambled to get my hands on this one, and I’m absolutely thrilled to premiere Samuel Proffitt today on Indie Shuffle.

Sam Driver is part of the duo PRFFTT & Svyable, which has gained a lot of support throughout the years. They were thriving, having been supported by Adventure Club and Krewella, but Sam Proffitt Driver wanted to create a side project that truly spoke to him and his story. And today, folks, we have exactly that.

I like to imagine Sam Proffitt as this ambiguous, incredibly dark and mysterious character that creates music for the emotionally lost -- people who are in transition, deciding which path to take next. I’m not sure what his direction will be, but that’s what I take from this song.

“Sladky” is quietly daring, the build-up to the first vocal introduction sets you in a pensive state. The vocals remind of Sam Smith, and the track is reminiscent of Disclosure and James Blake. Piercingly dramatic, yet so smooth. The production on the song is flawless, from the very beginning to the last few seconds, where it fades out with the soothing sound of rain. The song portrays seamless transcendence, and it leaves me waiting for more.

According to the SoundCloud page, “Sladky” is the debut single off the upcoming EP Blue Notebook No. 10. For now, take some time out and listen to track. Don’t do it while checking emails or scrolling through Instagram. Just take a few silent moments and dissolve. Oh, did we mention it's a free download?

Also, cheers to Hunt for the Breeze for the incredible artwork.
