Why do we like this?
Today was a day of friends, laughter, music, and a smattering of introspection. While partaking in the fruits of life, a SBTRKT song came on my friend's playlist which lead me to think about my first listen of the UK artist, then only known as a tribal masked enigma.
"Look At Stars" is off SBTRKT's 2010 EP Step In Shadows, bringing a feverish intensity and some awesome scatting. Already fraternizing with Sampha who supplies vocals for and tours with the artist, the single encompasses all the great aspects electronic-dance-funk in one 4 minute package. Listening to this now throwback today, it is blatant that even this younger SBTRKT had vision and talent, along with some serious production skills.
Also noteworthy is Machinedrum's remix of "Look At Stars," which you can listen to here.
