Why do we like this?
How do you celebrate the 18th birthday of a true icon? If you're Lynx Africa, you get the great and the good to create 18 diverse pieces of art that nod to said icon's cultural heritage.
That's why Lynx Africa invited 18 of their favorite artists -- from Simon Milner of Is tropical, to Gif-iti artist Insa, to Tumblr legend Jim'll Paint It, to rapper ItsNate -- to produce original new work that celebrates Lynx Africa becoming a man.

Episode 2/18: Simon Milner From The Band Is Tropical
What inspired the work?
When my band IS TROPICAL visited Accra in Ghana with a film crew to make a documentary about their music and culture, we spent a lot of time in Jamestown, a slum on the coast with a big fishing community. Despite being extremely poor, they are amongst the friendliest and happiest people I've ever met. Our guide 'Nice One' took us to their local boxing gym, where I shot this footage, of their prize fighter whilst he sparred on a hot muggy day.
The accompanying track is something I composed using local instruments bought while in Ghana. These include a Mbira (Thumb Piano), Televi (Ghanaian Shaker), Steelpan, Tontonsasa & a Finger Bell. The vocals are from a traditional Ghanaian song, sung at celebrations. I wanted the track to be motivating to work out to, a constant drive.
