Why do we like this?

Ahhhh, new Son Lux... like a breath of fresh air in a smoggy city of overused sampling techniques and consistent rhythm signatures.

Son Lux, formerly just composer Ryan Lott but now joined by his touring guitarist and drummer, has gained a reputation for his meticulous arrangements and sampling of organic materials, and his latest release is no different.

"You Don't Know Me" feels a little schizophrenic in a particularly Son Lux kind of way: sparse and minimalist one moment, frighteningly epic the next, like a nightmarish version of Stars.

Drummer Ian Chang sets the pace with his off kilter, jazz-infused snare work, complemented by an urban bass line, chime-y guitars, and vocals by Ryan and his frequent female companion (who, at this point, is becoming so central to SL's sound, she really shouldn't be left behind during tours anymore).

This single from the upcoming LP Bones shows that even with actual performers in the band, nobody does electronic music like Son Lux. Also, they're on tour right now, so don't miss them!
