Netflix should consider putting Sam Sutherland’s latest single on the soundtrack for their next hit, teenage rom-com. A pop song like this has potential to rise quickly on the charts.
Sutherland changes up the sound by sliding the audio up and down, almost as if he's just fiddling around with a mixer. The pauses he takes in the beginning are also a peaceful touch since it’s relaxing to feel the music smoothly stop and start again; almost like the song itself is breathing.
His raw and emotional lyrics about losing yourself, not knowing where to find the old you and not wanting others to know about the turmoil you're experiencing are relatable to everyone who has gone through troubling times. Like these lines: “I've lost track of who I am / Who I'm supposed to be / I need help, help / I can't tell nobody I'm going through hell / I need help, help / And I wish I could, but can't be someone else.”
This song follows his debut EP,NONE of this has been about you, that he released last year.
