Why do we like this?
Toro y Moi needs to be listened to with the volume cranked way up so that it can overwhelm you with fuzziness. If you aren't cranking your speakers, it just might not work. The solo project of 23-year-old south Carolinan, Chaz Bundick, Toro y Moi has all the cutting edge modernity of Passion Pit, Memory Tapes and Wavves. That is to say, he  knows how to pump out intense beats using his synths and laptop samples. While this style may be teetering dangerously close to becoming washed up, Toro y Moi's debut album, My Touch, does a surprising job breaking the mold.

What elevates him above the chaff and detritus is both the subtlety and execution; the fact that he actually sings the featherweight and often soulful vocals and plays the synth lines to his own music makes all the difference. As a result, Chaz Bundick is downright intimate with his music: the payoff is much bigger, the riffs more electric, and everything overflows with funky heart and dance-worthy soul - Aural States
