Why do we like this?
One of the first comments I saw on SoundCloud about this song was something like "TA-KU AND ATU? NO WAY!!" Yeah, in all caps. Pretty much sums up the way I felt though: Ta-ku and Atu are two of my favorite artists, heavily featured across our playlists here. You don't have to look far for recent rave reviews: just peek what Elizabeth, Hugh, and new contributor Gabriel Strum have had to say. Plus, I called Atu's Pictures on Silence my favorite release of 2013. I stand by that. It's still the best collection of beats I've heard this year.
"I Miss You More" is off Ta-ku's freshly released Songs To Break Up To. With an album title like that, you know it's going to sound slightly depressing. Elizabeth was right to muse he's got to have gone through some serious shit to make this. While we all know how that post-break up feels, thank God Ta-ku's channeled it into creativity. I feel this whole album's the materialized version of staring at Facebook photos with your ex: bittersweet as fuck.
This track is a sort of sequel to "I Miss You" (at least in name) but clearly different in sound. This time, there's Atu's characteristic reverb plus an altered Janet* sample. The end result is haunting, in a weirdly charming way.
