On the back of their debut mini-LP, Recital, released in 2018, produced by Matt Peel (Eagulls, Autobahn, Pulled Apart By Horses), Leeds-based six-piece,Team Picture, have been amassing a loyal, steady following over the past few years. They've worked tirelessly to hone their sound and perfect their live set, earning them support slots alongside The Orielles, Parquet Courts and Wire. Next month, they drop their eagerly anticipated debut full length, The Menace of Mechanical Musicon Clue Records.
The latest single to tease this release is "this is the," a moody, mature number for an outfit relatively young in years. Taking their cues from shoegaze and fuzz pop, there's a refined sense in the way the track incorporates their signature fuzz soaked synths, never going for the immediate or obvious route. The track weaves its way alongside a confident, looping drum line that compliments the build towards a particularly impressive climax of multi-layered synths.
There's a real sense of creative synergy and expression between all band members, resulting in a very satisfying balance. Each instrument finds its own space amongst the production.
It takes a few listens to appreciate the intricacies and craftsmanship involved, but those are just the best kinds of tracks aren't they? If 'this is the' is anything to go off, the new LP looks set to be a surefire 2020 highlight.
