Good new music has been hard for me to come by lately, but by the time I was three tracks into this new album from Husky Rescue, I knew I'd hit on something that was worth the listen. Based out of Helsinki, Finland, the five-piece group fuses alternative with trip hop, ultimately producing a pop sound reminiscent of Emiliana Torrini or a down-tempo Metric. The result is perfectly fitting for the terribly gloomy, winter weather that has gripped Washington, D.C. for the last few weeks (don't let the above track fool you -- it happens to be the most upbeat on the album!). Ship of Light is their third release, following a reasonable amount of success with their sophomore release on Catskill, Ghost is Not Real. You can purchase it by clicking the artist image above.
From opener "First Call" through to closing track "Beautiful My Monster", it will have you in a dreamlike trance. Push me to pick a track and I will go with the aforementioned "Beautiful My Monster" as a perfect mix of minimalism with pop sensibilities. Out now on Catskill Records, it's everything and more that I want from an album. If anything else moves me this much this year I will be surprised. I have a new favourite band! Thank you Husky Rescue, you have brightened the dark winter nights with this beautiful album! - Battery In Your Leg
