This song carries an oldies sound with a strong '60s and '70s influence. The Lemon Twigs could easily be a modern reincarnation of the Beach Boys or the Monkees. Their vocals and instrumentals sound like they could have sat in a room with Brian Wilson, bouncing ideas off one another ideas off one another.
Although they definitely give off a vintage feel, they also have a style of songwriting that’s original and special to them. The Lemon Twigs is eclectic in the way that they embrace all things different. They have a great sense of individuality and not following the mainstream too closely, which makes me love this song even more.
I'm a strong advocate for meaningful lyrics, and of course, this song checked that box. Like in these lines from my favorite verse: “Joy is nothing without sorrow / Tears are the currency of pain.”
I love how this song makes me feel like I’ve traveled back in time. Even the album cover has a vintage aesthetic, complete with '80s haircuts, striking shoulder blades and a stale blue backdrop everyone used for their school photos.
“Live in Favor of Tomorrow” is off their album, Songs For The General Public, which will come out in August.
