Recently signed to Sub Pop, Jacksonville native Yuno's first single under the new label is a little slice of sunshine. A self-taught musician, producer and director, Yuno not only wrote, performed, recorded and produced "No Going Back" himself, but also directed the music video in which he stars.
It's light and breezy indie-pop, with warm and bouncy synth-lines softly coloured over with warm piano melodies and guitar solos. His vocals -- fitting beautifully into the current psychedelic renaissance spearheaded by the likes of Tame Impala and Washed Out -- pour out an infectious melody that's simultaneously great fun and inflected with melancholy.
"There's no going back for me baby/maybe you know how I feel," he sings on the song's hook before breaking into lovely and inspired "La la la la's." A song about being past the point of no return, and it feels fitting for Yuno who, with a sound and songwriting like this, seems destined for great things.
