Two Adele covers have been garnering a lot of attention lately. The first was done by Mike Posner and feature’s the song “Rolling in the Deep,” off Adele’s 2011 release 21, reviewed on Indie Shuffle last month. I can’t think of too many instances where I’ve seen a male vocalist tackling a female artist, but Posner appears to navigate around this with a sufficiently striking remake. Given Adele’s signature voice, it’s no small feat.
The second track making its way around is Adele covering The Strokes’ “Last Night.” While Adele isn’t the first female vocalist to cover The Strokes (see Metric’s rendition here), her strong bluesy vocals bring a completely unique sound, certainly far from Julian Casablancas’ familiar crooning. For a 21-year-old, she definitely appears to be off to a fantastic musical start.
