I have little doubt that Bon Iver’s self-titled 2011 album will rank as one of the best this year (certainly as far as folk/indie rock is concerned). But I haven’t heard too many remixes come out of it. Perhaps that’s because folk is a much more difficult genre to flip on its head with drumbeats and electronic tweaking. Unless, of course, you add a subtle dub drumbeat.
Rummage handles the album’s opening track “Perth” like a champ. The added percussion and bass pique the tempo just enough, such that the song is at once transformed and yet still true to the original form. Conclusion? This song wasn’t ruined by the remix.
