Sometimes, I like my summer synth pop with a dash of melancholy. Or at least an added dimension that makes it more than pleasurable background noise.New Orleans duo Generationals has managed to do that quite well -- they add emotional layers to their throwback pop sound. Take the track "You Got Me," off their new (and free!) EP, Medium Rarities .The shimmering, lilting hook soothes you as you listen, almost causing you to forget the raw vulnerability of the lyrics; "Every single night, you've got me aching all the time." The two are at odds with each other, and the effect is lasting.
