JOY

Stone

Sounds like: London Grammar, Banks, The Kite String Tangle
Personality in young artists is becoming increasingly uncommon these days, but based on socials alone, Brisbane teenager JOY (Olivia McCarthy) has it in abundance. With the sheer volume of talented musicians popping up over Australia, setting yourself apart is incredibly important, but only if your music lives up to the hype you generate. McCarthy's definitely does, and speaks of an artist on the verge of great things. Having enjoyed her debut single "Captured," she's taken a clear step-up on her new track "Stone." Dreamy and well-produced, her delicate, breathy vocals are encapsulated in a cloud of drifting soundscapes. The lazy comparison would be Banks, but I see some direct parallels with fellow Brisbane-based vocalist/producer the Kite String Tangle, too. "Stone" is the title track from JOY's upcoming debut EP, slated for release in the coming months.
